b-tracks debut at the end of last year was a runaway smash, gone in a flash. the come back ep is another deadly round of deep, real dance music from the two new yorkers, schooled in vintage gotham and detroit house and techno, freshly to the manor born — driving, dub-wise, bare-bones, soulful, and melodic, by turns. once again, dont sleep on it.
mad crazy come back from underground legend nathaniel x project. after releasing some heavy heavy deeeeeep works on label such as music station or island noyze back in the early 90s, heres a killer set of previously unreleased jewels...
its been a full 12 inch months since luca bacchettis remix of david alvarados >klugh”<blazed its trail here on ovum. so what better way for us to ramp up the temperature in these cold winter months than to welcome our great friend back with his latest double-header. now residing in barcelona, the tuscan has enjoyed yet another successful year. whilst luca turned his hand to a&r ing and enjoying great success with the signings for his own hideout label, he also impressed again with his own work for the likes of wagon repair, defected and crosstown rebels. having opened the year with a serious slice of techno, luca leads ovum back to house as he presents two beautifully warm sun-drenched numbers. the bongo-heavy >on the moon with you < has us dreaming of summer as it bathes us in spine-tingling synths, beautiful melodies and dreamy vocals. from the balearic sounds of the title track to the african rhythms and inspirations of >high life<. high life is a track laden with vocal samples, and powered by its potent piano riff
first up is >waves< by norwegian dynamo the treatment. after the success of his on & on ep, as well as an overflowing vat of remixes, in 2011, the treatment is back to form with this flawless rework of surfaces >falling in love<, a surprising yet harmonious blend of nu disco, classic house chords and electro – a cerebral record that also highlights his instinctive side. we all love a piano riff too, of course.
the irresistible electronic trio formed by antonio pecori stefano meucci and andrea giacchetti mainly known as the clover strikes back on bosconi records with another strong 4 tracks ep. after an year spent into researchin and experimenting in their own studio, jammin for hours like a proper band as they are, using analogue machines, freaky instruments and concrete sounds, our lovely boys, always keepin their distinctive funky n groovy attitude, turned the page of their past west-coast inspired funky house vibe and changed the way of seeing club music into giving life to a completely new, fresh and personal house style. the whole ep sounds like house music influenced by post rock bands like tortoise and kraut legends like can and this 12inch is an absolut winner that sees on a side the psychedelic tribal funk of goodies while on the second cut theres the subliminal mood of wandering souls, b side instead goes more spiritual and rockin thanks to the manipulated percussive trip of find yourself and the darkdroning session of amsterdam house don san proper remixing goodies. a real four season ep!
the legendary freakazoids return to the 808 to bring back their own slice of electro funk. the freakazoids is the brainchild of lee coombs, nick slater and lanx (later two both of shades of rhythm fame) who came together through their love of old skool electro funk and hip hop and released a string of underground records in the late nineties. after a ten year break and working on other projects the boys have decided to collaborate again and bring back the funk.
>freakazoid experiments< is a brand new track that delivers the old skool electro boogie with a modern twist.
>what is a dj 2012< is a new remake if one of their biggest tracks also aimed squarely at the dancefloor.
oh yeah, dont forget your kangol bucket...
support by: gabriel ananda, patrick lindey, karotte, samuel l session, phil kieran, laurent garnier, stephan bodzin, angel molina, alan fitzpatrick, ben sims, joris voorn, dustin zahn, joseph capriati, marco bailey, karotte,.. after the big success of his remixes for david durango & sven elmlund, label boss alexander kowalski returns with a new release of his own on damage music berlin. crossing the borderline is a track from his live-sets and has been played all over the globe. for the studio version he used all of these experiences to edit and create the techno bomb you hear today. the heavy bassline and the pumping percussions give the track a strong drive that delivers us to the break. sweet strings and flying hypnotic synth-sounds bring us to its peak, before releasing us back to the bass once again
klas henrik lindbald aka sasse the man behind the moodmusic label headlining the scene since 1996 is now back on tep after his remix of your love alongside james flavour. sasse delivers a brillant track entitled the solaris conspiracy + a great ambient mix. on remix duties we have martin dawson under his king roc alias & francis inferno orchestra.
real tone is back with a special & limited one-sided by franck roger. original track ,> bring it back<, is revisited here by uk superstar maya janes coles.
though some only know the byrds for their covers, critics believe that they are amongst the most important and influential bands of the 1960s. their signature sound of clear harmony singing and jangling guitars combined well with the sounds of british invaders the beatles & the rolling stones, and they became the pioneers of folk rock, psychedelic rock, raga rock, and country rock.
the recording of the 1968 album >the notorious byrd brothers< in the heyday of the flower power age was nothing less than herculean, disputes over artistic direction & power struggles within the band meant that by the time recording was finished there were only two byrd-members left. the album was a labour of love, though, its more experimental and progressive than their previous works and is considered one of the best albums they made ...
re-issue on 180 grams audiophile vinyl.
juan atkins returns to r&s on a model 500 solo mission. the last model 500 single enlisted the help of the live line up that includes detroit techno royalty mike banks and ur alumni mark taylor, but this latest release is just juan in the studio and back at his best. >control< is vintage model 500, the classic electro that atkins pretty much invented, with his treated vocals riding over the crisp rhythm programming, dark basslines and detroit synths. >the messenger< on the flip is a moodier affair, with the liquid synths almost running away with themselves over the rough beats. model 500 and r&s has proved to have been a classic combination over the years and this release is one to file next to the classics.
new single of the parisian trio on the franco-german label. the first track called dcl is a floating piece combining beautifull organ chords and breaking funky beats, setting on one hand a kind of religious scene and on the other hand giving the feeling to be a stream train at full speed! this is the track choosed by moritz piske, who did a jackin freaky remix out of it. got back is the other original track from the antislash. groovy baseline which reminds the remix they did for ribadisco on the salon records 02. avas verden put her voice with lyrics from her rockband lipstick, following the freaky acid lines. after their killer remix for tin man last year, we qre very happy to release this new project from antislash.
second release on the wonderful supafrico records digs up and dusts off four more mega-rare nuggets of superb afro funk. first up is the excellent afro disco groove of kabbalas ashewo ara, a lost gem originally released back in 82 on tiny uk independent red flame and now featuring highly on many collectors wants lists. next is buaris im ready, a chunk of pure dancefloor dynamite with a driving disco groove and great funky synths, taken from the ghanian singer and percussionists awesome 1979 disco soccer lp. on the flip we get the mega-rare and totally essential body & soul, a magnificent 10 minute mid-tempo afro workout recorded in 1980 by nigerian funkster william onyeabor. last up is a great extended edit of the ashantis brilliant funky bubbler everybodys groove with its floor-filling groove and wicked vocals. these lovingly remastered rarities sound better than ever making this ep a must for anyone with a taste for those incredible funky afro grooves.

sven is back on toffler vinyl with his second solo release. after the great toffler vinyl 002 quantec show us new dimensions beyond the known with this new vinyl release. dark, dubby, physical, from detroit to chicago, there are a lot of flavours in this release that will drive you into quantec_land. pure analog experience for this vinyl, quantec recorded his work @ echo chamber studios, devastating mastering/cut @ the exchange mastering studios, london-uk. the masterpiece finally is here!
martin landskys outstanding form continues with his latest release on poker flat recordings–his first outing on steve bugs label since his stunning contribution to the‚jack is back ep earlier this year. with over 10 years of association with the label, landsky is a poker flat mainstay - and with this release, its not hard to see why.the composer is an atmospheric tech-house work out that kicks off with a tight and funky groove, and then expands into an off-kilter dancefloor bomb, with nagging synth lines weaving their way through the taut, finely- tuned production. on the flip, moodmusic main-man sasse adds a dubbier take on the track, pushing the drums up in the mix and teasing out the acidic riffs to full effect. expertly building the tension, the track resolves itself in an epic breakdown.
amazing debut release of these talented guys from napels, italy. they deliver three classic yet fresh deep house/tracks that can easily compete with the best that early u.s. labels like kms or prescription had to offer back in the days. with their warm & lush chords & basslines and superb analog drum programming they showcase a deep understanding of what this music is about. very deep, warm, funky & mysterious release. tracks by leskin, rio padice and massimo di lena.
please welcome: its the arps! oslos magic music maker todd terje has already gained a wunderkind like reputation for his gentle yet potent productions (we wont mention the e-word here) on labels like full pupp, permanent vacation or running back on top of being one of the best remixers money can buy (shit robot, bryan ferry, dølle jølle et cetera et cetera). what is there left for him to do? establish a label of his own! >its the arps< is the starting signal for olsen. and what a splendid one it is. created from scratch and solely on the mythical synthesizer arp 2600 (check www.letsnerd.com for help), it features four tracks (reads instant classics) that couldn’t be a better follow-up to his 2011 super hit ep >ragysh<.
driving forces recordings are happy to present roberto capuanos first ep for the label.
next to this new talents three original tunes, on >invaders are back ep< you will find one of driving forces biggest tracks to date, no less than drumcode and 8 sided dice artist, alan fitzpatrick delivering an amazing remix of the title track, which has already been supported by adam beyer, joseph capriati, sasha carassi and alan himself, on his recent essential mix for bbc radio 1.
its been 16 years since aquasky first started bashing out the beats on moving shadow and 10 years since they released the mind altering >777< on botchit & scarper. during these 16 years aquasky have messed about with most genres at most tempos... but always retaining their trademark bass and their retro rave vibes.and here we are... the first ep from their long awaited follow up album to >teamplayers< released on passenger back in 2006. going back to their tear-out roots and fully embracing the modern production sound of now along with a firm 140bpm footing, aquasky come out fighting. >raise the devil< is an albums worth of tracks that will awaken your inner devil... powerful, noisy, aggressive and militant. taking it back to the days when people partied hard in abandoned warehouses and muddy fields. but, i expect you know all of that already... its what aquasky do, and its what they do well!
this ep represents a landmark on nice cats history as fiat 600 cuts a deep slice of musical history on chileans underground scene, since >the pinochet boys< , back in the 80s where miguel conejeros started his unique approach to groove making as the brains of this legendary art-punk band ( think glaxo babies meets los angeles negros) and throughout his oblique jungle-drums and bass excursion in the nineties this national treasure always knows how to deliver the unexpected and leave a sweet aftertaste. here are six offbeat dance gems , including his reworking of villalobos-los updatess >miss u so<. we at nice cat try to keep it cool but , if truth needs to be told , we are gleaming with pride. nice cat 05 . all tracks and music by miguel conejeros except a3 ( ricardo villalobos / jorge gonzález) and b2 ( carlos vergara-miguel conejeros). artwork by yvonne blanco
too late for this years christmas festivities, but hopefully still an acceptable gift for vinyl enthusiasts: two previously digital-only tracks from the running back(catalogue) on one split-10inch-plate. todd terjes picturesque ambient version of ragyshs antagonist snooze 4 love is backed up by jack plugs (alias chris bishop) supernatural (disco) dub of son of sams 1984 electro punk punch nature makes a mistake. two for one, one for all and 500 copies for the world.
a re-working of defkline and red polo is whats on offer for the latest release on the ever so cheeky cheeky hot cakes. >take it back< is instantly recogniseable and is expertly re-crafted by deekline and ed solo on the a side, the super star pairing make this one a must buy. ably backed up by a phatman and robin mix, dont miss out.
another raw techno basics va for the collection. four names that are currently really doing well within the sound. if youre into that peek time dark and funky techno this is a release for you. the a side contains david moleon and iago de la vega teaming up for some funky action while the b side contains a darker daisychain track and an anthem by thermo.
new kanada welcomes the mole back into the fold with a heavy image two-tracker from deep in the forest. the slo-mo a-side “dog river” is heavy and raw and dripping with calcified disco echoes. tweaking distant bass, tugging percussion and psyched vocal loops. a serious main-floor builder. on the b-side, colin gets tougher and darker and crafts a potential blackout bomb. grinding pads mix with a morphing bassline to form a dubbed out late-night track - made for the mix.
the second release by berlin based knuggles recordings will be coming out in december. it features the previously unreleased original 12inch mix of 7107 music by netto houz. this hybrid of chicago deep house and oldschool electro caused some dancefloor action back in 1998, when it was originally released on ladomat 2000. on the flipside, knuggles recordings presents a new exciting producer: dj nikolaos aka moire patterns spins his track the roots anthems 001 (co-produced by dj kriton) into a modern and spherical growing deep house bomb. enjoy!
mysterious white label dubs of an as yet unidentified artist by the omnipotent 6th borough project. three versions to choose from ranging from the mid tempo a side through to the peak time house dub and back down to the aptly named udder dub
6 months after we first ventured into vinyl territory were back with a new ep. the follow up to kastils dusty edits is a sampler containing 4 tracks by 3 artists we are heavily supporting at the moment. the a1 is again by basque county based kastil. shes back is a wonderful sample drenched house track containing soul touching vocals. definitely one for the dancefloor. on the a2 we have doctor bills by fellow rotterdam native ben la desh this is actually his first release out of many to come. this track has been circulating the soundcloud for a few months and was played by ooft! in one of his excellent podcasts. on the flip we find two tracks by taiko mochi name:tomas malo. while the b1 scenesters is a great more uptempo disco house track with quite an emotive break its the b2 slomo track shelter that has been stealing the show until now. if youre in to real slow and mesmerizing music this might just be the one for you. support by: ooft!, the dead rose music company, miguel campbell, craig smith (6th borough project), andy ash, james johnston, soho808, sleazy beats recordings, zoo look, kirill tipo, fulbert, satore.
local talk is proud to present the first release on their sub-label 1nce again. this is where we bring back classic and forgotten house gems from back in the day with new mixes and reworks. for our first release we have gone back to 97 and a producer known and respected worldwide in the house music community with more than 200 production credits under his belt. joshua michaels aka joshua iz perhaps best known for his collabs with dwayne washington as iz & diz but has of course used many other pseudonyms over the years for releases on labels like prescription, balance, classic, junior boys own, om and guidance. the return was first released on heard, sub-label to tom middletons evolution / universal language productions ltd. using his moniker circulation. the track can easily be described as a mammoth house track, clocking in just over 12 minutes. its one of those pieces of music that’s stood the test of time and why iz has been a major force in electronic music for so many years. on the flip much hyped duo prommer & barck stripped it down from its original costume leaving not much left of the source material resulting in something that we best could describe as old school warehouse meets uk bass. its pretty raw and definitely a basement sureshot!
alex and bill met 16 years ago when bill signed one of alex s first productions (is this the rhythm? by rhythmnvibe) to a new york label he was running. alex, whose father lives in the us, was a regular visitor to the states and they sent many happy hours together hanging out at the sound factory bar and comparing maw dubs. when bill returned to the uk in 1996, they had a few sessions together making house music, though neither of them can remember why they never finished anything or, indeed, what became of the tracks. fast forward a few years and they finally got back into the studio to make sweet music together under the moniker hotel motel. since then they have created a rich seam of work that some have already described as, like salvador dali with his pants down being fellated by deirdre barlow. few would disagree.
we are proud to announce our second release, >there s a way back<, the new ep from london based producer graphics, backed with a remix from getme!s very own dam mantle.
its been 16 years since aquasky first started bashing out the beats on moving shadow and 10 years since they released the mind altering >777< on botchit & scarper. during these 16 years aquasky have messed about with most genres at most tempos... but always retaining their trademark bass and their retro rave vibes. and here we are... the first ep from their long awaited follow up album to >teamplayers< released on passenger back in 2006. going back to their tear-out roots and fully embracing the modern production sound of now along with a firm 140bpm footing, aquasky come out fighting. >raise the devil< is an albums worth of tracks that will awaken your inner devil... powerful, noisy, aggressive and militant. taking it back to the days when people partied hard in abandoned warehouses and muddy fields. but, i expect you know all of that already... its what aquasky do, and its what they do well!
THE WARRIOR DANCE III (RON TRENT / CHEZ DAMIER RMXS)
12 Inch 08.12.11
skylax records, the company focused on realeasing original obscure dance classic and everything that sounds fine to their ears! for our 25th release, we are back again with simoncino for the warrior dance iii, this brand new ep will feature on a side the wonderfull >warriors dance< (chicagos jackin heaven is not so far we guess), >tropical vibe< that has got this kind of disco feeling without sounding (thx god) nu-disco & to end >hey detroit< that speaks for itself. on the b side, we have the very big honor to get 2 extraordinary remixes, one from the legendary ron trent (more than 10 min long!) & another atmospheric & deep as hell one from chez damiers morning after mix part ii. this is the kind of release that will remind you what house music is all about. useless to say that simoncino is on top right now & is writing some future & cult club classics. a must to have in every djs collection
terpsiton are proud to welcome to the gang the new faces of the scene and old friends of the label called themselves the scene. this strongly and catchy headline is wisely chosen and named after the legendary detroit based tv-show that turned usual men into celebrities over night. it absurdly and hilariously demonstrates how to get a name and how to get fame just by being marked as a celebrity. so, these well talented guys that are totally into the deep and underground house stuff vault themselves into the scene by releasing this ass-kicking and groundbreaking record that is full of catchy and lovely hook lines, forcing kick drums, intense arrangements and a true passion for the house movement as it was back in the days. on two songs (feist movement & lab) the scene is supported by two other new gang members soon to be well known namely as niki and franz b. werner who add their feel and taste of sounds. a unique blend of individuals, great sounds and real emotions that will make history. never mind the celebrities - here comes the scene!
back 2 back is built around a spontaneous live jam by dj pippi, tucillo and kiko navarro in dj pippis studio on ibiza. in a few hours they had finished the track. the ep opens with tucillo and willi graffs dub, a muscular, driving, stripped down rework of the original for a popping dance floor. kokis back dub is also a floor tool that has been well tested this summer by kiko navarro with great results. the ep finishes with a very cool afriki soul remix by bhoddi satva.
after the highly successful sunshine reworks #1 (still going strong - big thank you!) soulshare is back with two more deep disco gems in this solid series.
first up and we are once again at prelude for a sweet beefed up version of the classic soul boogie shuffler love fever. pitching things up with reconstructed vocals, added layers and killer drums, dean ignites a deep disco flavor to this track! rounding things off with more retrospective hands-in-the-air pianos its another storming anthemic floorfiller - already getting serious support from some of the key players!
flip over and track two is a deep n dubby trip with tamiko jones fave let it flow. dean takes this killer groove and adds echos, effects, drums and vocals to create a deep disco groover that keeps you shuffling till the end! with a joyous percussive overlaying finale this track is perfect for todays deeper floors. another solid release from dean and his sunshine reworks series. getting big support from the likes of ashley beedle, eric duncan, yam who, pbr streetgang, luke una etc...
